Coupon Lingo

When searching for coupons and store matchups, you will frequently come across coupon lingo that you may not understand. Here is a list of terms and abbreviations you should familiarize yourself with. Bookmark this page for easy access!

Sunday Newspaper Insert Abbreviations

GM = General Mills
KG = Kellogg
PG = Procter & Gamble
RP = Red Plum (aka V = Valassis)
SS = SmartSource

Common Coupon Abbreviations and Terms

B1G1 or BOGO = Buy One Get One Free
Blinkies = Coupon machines found in many stores that spit out coupons (these look like small boxes and are usually attached to shelves or refrigerator doors, sticking out into the aisle)
BTFE = Box Tops for Education
C/D = Complete Deal
C/O = Cents Off Coupon
CRT = Cash Register Tape
Catalina = Machine at register that prints out coupons
ECB = Extra Care Bucks (CVS Lingo)
Endcaps = The displays at the end of aisles where sale/clearance items are kept
ESC = Easy Saver Coupon (Walgreens Lingo)
ESR = Easy Saver Rebate (Walgreens Lingo)
FAR = Free After Rebate
Filler = This is an item that is purchased to achieve a minimum purchase amount
Hangtag = A coupon that hangs on a product
Insert = These are the coupons from the Sunday paper
IP = Internet Printable
IVC = Instant Value Coupon
LP = List Price of an item
MC = Manufacturer’s coupon
MFG or MFR = Manufacturer
MIR = Mail In Rebate
MQ = Manufacturer’s coupon
NED = No Expiration Date
OOP = Out of Pocket
Overage or Ovg. = Refers to what is considered a profit when you stack coupons or coupons w/ rebates, etc.
Peelie = A coupon that you peel off a product’s packaging
POP = Proof of Purchase
Q or Qs = Coupon or Coupons
RC = Raincheck
RR = Register Reward (Walgreens Lingo)
SCR = Single Check Rebate (Rite Aid Lingo)
SMP = Specially Marked Packages
Stacking = Using a store coupon and manufacturer’s coupon together on one purchase to increase savings
Tearpad = A book of coupon near a product in a store where you are able to tear coupons off
TMF = Try Me Free – This is usually a mail in rebate for the purchase price paid
TQ = Target Coupon
UPC = Universal Product Code
UPR or +UP = Register Rewards at Rite Aid
YMMV = Your mileage may vary, different at different stores
WAGS = Walgreens Drugstore
WSL = While Supplies Last
WYB = When you Buy
